First Date Safety Guide
Essential tips to stay safe on your first date — meeting in public, sharing your location, and trusting your instincts.
Meet in a public place
Always choose a busy, public location for a first meeting — a coffee shop, restaurant, or mall. Avoid private residences, hotels, or isolated areas until you know the person well.
Tell someone where you're going
Share the date location, time, and your date's name with a trusted friend or family member. Send a photo or screenshot of the profile. Set a check-in time and stick to it.
Arrange your own transportation
Drive yourself or use a rideshare. Never let your date pick you up from home or drop you off on the first meeting. This gives you full control over leaving when you want.
Watch your drink
Never leave your drink unattended. Order drinks yourself and watch them being prepared. If you feel dizzy, disoriented, or unusually intoxicated, get help immediately.
Trust your instincts
If something feels off — a story that doesn't add up, pressure to go somewhere private, or aggressive behavior — leave. You owe no explanation. Your safety is non-negotiable.
Have an exit plan
Before the date, plan an excuse to leave early if needed. Have a friend ready to call you with a fake emergency. Never feel obligated to stay longer than you want.
