From Online to Offline
How to transition from messaging to meeting in person — smoothly and safely.
Don't wait too long
After 1-2 weeks of quality messaging, suggest meeting. Extended online-only relationships often fizzle or reveal incompatibility too late.
Video chat first
A short video call before meeting confirms the person matches their photos and gives you a sense of chemistry and communication style.
Start with something short
Coffee, a drink, or a walk — 45-90 minutes. If it goes well, extend it. If not, you can part gracefully without a long commitment.
Pick a convenient location
Choose a place you know, in an area you're comfortable with, that's easy for both of you to reach. Don't travel far for a first meeting.
Be present
Put your phone away. Focused attention signals genuine interest. Give the meeting a real chance before deciding about a second date.
